Looking down onto Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour from the top of the Peak at dusk, one is mesmerized by a sea of glittering gemstones of every hue and colour, picked out by lasers and neon. It is one of the most spectacular sights on earth. There is nothing subtle about the architecture of Hong Kong: big and brash, it demands to be noticed. Height is the single most important criteria, but even the tallest and most imposing will have little more that 15 minutes of fame, before it is replaced by something taller and even more spectacular. |
