ANTARCTICA : A SEMI CIRCUMNAVIGATION

Antarctica covers 10% of the earth's surface and contains 68% of the world's fresh water supply. It is the highest, coldest, driest and windiest continent on earth. Once part of the supercontinent Gondwanaland, it has been in its present polar position for about 45 million years. Yet man built a hut on Antarctica for the very first time just over 100 years ago.

Writer Fiona Cameron and photographer Preben Kristensen went on an 11.000 km cruise along the coast of Antarctica on board the Russian icebreaker, Kapitan Khlebnikov. The journey took them through spectacular scenery to remote islands, historic huts and modern Scientific bases. They met an abundance of wildlife and discovered a previously unknown colony of Emperor penguins.
